Zunächst eine Klarstellung: Vorarephile sind keine Kannibalen. Der Vore-Fetisch ist allein auf die Fantasien des Geistes beschränkt und in der Realität nicht umsetzbar. Das unterstreiche ich hier deutlich, um jeglichen Vorurteilen den Boden zu nehmen und um Verständnis als auch Toleranz zu bitten.

Das Wort „Vorarephilie“ wurde für diesen Fetisch geschaffen und hat, je nach persönlicher Definition, unterschiedliche Bedeutungen. Es gibt mehrere Varianten zur Buchstabierung des Wortes. Voreaphilie, Voraphilie, Vorarephilie, usw. Das Wort setzt sich zusammen aus dem lateinischen „vorare“ (schlucken oder verschlingen) und dem griechischen „-phile“ (Liebhaber von), abgeleitet von „philos“ (Freund). Seltener und vor allem in wissenschaftlichen Bereich „Phagophilie“ genannt, vom altgriechischen φαγεῖν, gesprochen „phagein“ (essen) (siehe: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorarephilie). Die gebräuchlichste Kurzform ist „Vore“.

Umgekehrt ist „Phagophobia“ eine dokumentierte Angst vor dem Gefressen- oder Geschlucktwerden (siehe: Shapiro J, Franko DL, Gagne A. Phagophobia: a form of psychogenic dysphagia. A new entity. Ann Otol Rhinol Laryngol 1997; 106: 286-290). In der Öffentlichkeit bzw. im psychologisch-wissenschaftlichen Diskurs wird Vorarephilie zur Gruppe der Paraphilien gezählt, und somit zu sexuellen Neigungen, die von der Norm abweichen (siehe: Anders Ågmo: Functional and Dysfunctional sexual Behavior. A Synthesis of Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology. London/ Burlington/ San Diego 2007, S. 454).

Ein Vorarephile ist jemand, der es erregend oder interessant findet, wenn eine Kreatur eine andere verschlingt. "Vore" kommt in unterschiedlichen Weisen vor. Man unterscheidet zum Beispiel nach der Härte des Vorgangs oder mit welchem Körperteil das Opfer verschlungen oder verschluckt wird. Hier eine kleine Auflistung:

Es gibt unzählige Ausformungen und Varianten im Vore-Bereich. Womöglich so viele, wie es Fetische gibt, denn Vorarephilie ist adaptiv und kann mit den meisten anderen sexuellen Vorlieben (Bondage, SM, Scat, Koprophilie, Vomerophilie, Xenophilie, uvm.) in der Vorstellung kombiniert werden. Die Reaktionen eines Vorarephilen bei seinen Fantasien sind meist erotischer Natur, wobei sie  enorm variieren und von sanfter oder gar glücklicher Hingabe des Opfers bis zum Adrenalinstoß durch Panik und Schmerz reicht.
 
Warum finden Menschen die Vorstellung, verschlungen zu werden, sexuell erregend? Vorarephilie ist ein devianter Fetisch, für den es viele Auslöser gibt. Oft wünschen sich Vorarephile zurück in den Mutterleib, und zwar wortwörtlich. Ein weiterer Grund ist eine tiefe emotionale Verletzlichkeit durch andere Menschen, oder gesellschaftlichen Druck zum Erfolg oder Konformität, denen sie zu entkommen versuchen. Genauso können Traumata eine Rolle spielen. Neben dem sexuellen Aspekt steht übergeordnet ein eskapistisches Motiv. Eine weitere plausible, aber strittige Erklärung ist eine orale Fixierung nach der Definition Sigmund Freuds, mit der Fantasien ausgelebt werden. Bei dieser Sichtweise ist Vorsicht geboten, da viele Theorien der Psychoanalyse Freuds heute keine Gültigkeit mehr haben, erweitert wurden, oder im Kontext der „Vorarephilie“ neu bewertet werden müssen.

Vorarephile haben ausgeprägte Fantasien, in denen die Vorstellung zu „Fressen“ und „Gefressen zu werden“ meist im Mittelpunkt steht. Jene bleiben dabei rein gedanklich und können nicht ohne Schaden für Mensch oder ein Tier ausgelebt werden. Es gibt Virtual-Reality-Rollenspiele in Chat-Räumen sowie Bilder und Geschichten, die in der Community geteilt werden. Wenige Vorarephile praktizieren Vore im realen Leben, bei dem eine Person lebende Beute wie Goldfische, Vögel oder andere kleine Tiere schluckt. Letztere werden von Außenstehenden und anderen Vorarephilen wegen Tierquälerei kritisiert und verurteilt, was im öffentlichen Raum zu Missverständnissen und einem stark verzerrten Bild des Vore-Fandoms geführt hat. Oft sehen sich Vorarephile dem Vorwurf des Kannibalismus ausgesetzt und konfrontiert, was wiederum darin kulminiert, dass die Vore-Community so anonym wie möglich bleibt. Im Internet sind diverse Webseiten entstanden, oder die Thematik nimmt einen größeren Teil anderer Seiten ein.

In den Büchern der Edition Schlund wird in der Regel eine vom Autor erdachte Unterform der Vorarephilia beschrieben, der er den Namen Monstrophagophilie gab, um zu verdeutlichen, dass der Hauptcharakter sich durch Ungeheuer, Monstren und andere Kreaturen verschlingen oder schlucken lässt.

First, a clarification: Vorarephiles are not cannibals. The Vore fetish is limited only to the fantasies of the mind and is not realizable in reality. I underline this clearly here to take the ground from any prejudices and to ask for understanding as well as tolerance.

The word "Vorarephilie" was created for this fetish and has, depending on the personal definition, different meanings. There are several variants for spelling the word. Voreaphilia, Voraphilia, Vorarephilia, etc. The word is composed of the Latin "vorare" (to swallow or devour) and the Greek "-phile" (lover of), derived from "philos" (friend). In public or in psychological-scientific discourse, pre-philia is counted among the group of paraphilias, and thus among sexual inclinations that deviate from the norm (see: Anders Ågmo: Functional and Dysfunctional sexual Behavior. A Synthesis of Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology. London/ Burlington/ San Diego 2007, p. 454).

A vorarephile is someone who finds it arousing or interesting when one creature devours another. "Vore" comes in different ways. For example, one distinguishes according to the harshness of the process or with which part of the body the victim is devoured or swallowed. Here is a small listing:

• SOFT VORE - the fantasy involves swallowing the prey (willingly or resisting) whole and intact. The actions are sexual and non-lethal in nature, and the predators often leave the prey intact, spit it out, or magically reappear.

• HARD VORE - often referred to as "gore." There may or may not be a sexual connection. Prey is subjected to excruciating injury and blood loss before being killed and then digested. In many community forums, this form of Vore is banned if it becomes too explicit.

• VAGINAL VORE - also referred to as unborn or reverse birth. The person is consumed by a vagina and enters the uterus. This is not necessarily the vagina of a cis woman, but occasionally trans persons or beings.

• COCK VORE - the person is passed through the urethra and enters the scrotum, prostate or bladder. As with "Vaginal Vore", it does not have to be a cis male or male being that the victim is engulfed by, but can just as easily be a person or being of another sex with male sexual characteristics.

• BREAST VORE - the prey is absorbed through the nipples and enters the breasts.

• ANAL VORE - the person is swallowed from the anus and ends up in the rectum, colon or stomach.

There are countless formations and variations in the vore. Possibly as many as there are fetishes, because vorarephilia is adaptive and can be combined with most other sexual preferences (bondage, SM, scat, coprophilia, vomerophilia, xenophilia, and many more) in the imagination. The reactions of a vorarephile in his fantasies are mostly erotic in nature, varying enormously from gentle or even happy surrender of the victim to the adrenaline rush caused by panic and pain.

Why do people find the idea of being devoured sexually arousing? Vorarephilia is a deviant fetish for which there are many triggers. Often, vorarephiles wish they were back in the womb, literally. Another reason is a deep emotional vulnerability to other people, or societal pressures to succeed or conform, which they are trying to escape. Likewise, trauma can play a role. In addition to the sexual aspect, there is an overriding escapist motive. Another plausible, but controversial explanation is an oral fixation according to Sigmund Freud's definition, with which fantasies are lived out. Caution is required with this view, since many theories of Freud's psychoanalysis are no longer valid today, have been expanded, or must be reevaluated in the context of " vorarephilia."

Vorarephiles have distinct fantasies in which the idea of "eating" and "being eaten" is usually at the center. These remain purely mental and cannot be acted out without harm to humans or an animal. There are virtual reality role-playing games in chat rooms as well as pictures and stories shared in the community. Few vorarephiles practice vore in real life, in which a person swallows live prey such as goldfish, birds, or other small animals. The latter are criticized and condemned by outsiders and other vorarephiles for animal cruelty, which has led to misunderstandings and a highly distorted image of vore fandom in the public sphere. Often Vorarephiles face and are confronted with accusations of cannibalism, which in turn culminates in the Vore community remaining as anonymous as possible. Various websites have been created on the Internet, or the subject matter takes up a larger part of other sites.

The books of the Edition Schlund usually describe a subform of vorarephilia invented by the author, to which he gave the name monstrophagophilia, to make it clear that the main character allows himself to be devoured or swallowed by monsters, monstrosities and other creatures.
